and I agree! What a depressing weekend. Rainy, cold and very windy – and it’s almost June! Disgusting… I am so sick of being confined to the house. I hope everyone else (on other continents) had better wethaer than we did (it’s not hard) and had a nice Memorial Day/Bank Holiday weekend.
To top off our icky weekend, we are having an icky start to this week with maximum fussiness and a new tooth this morning! Ty now has both bottom chicklets. Atleast we were super successful with our pear breakfast this morning – he had seconds. As Jason would say, ‘chow down wide load.’ I am still making all his food at the moment – this morning I have spent his nap times baking sweet potatos and steaming cauliflower, zucchini and broccoli. We will see how that goes down.
The weekend wasn’t all bad though – Saturday night we totally got to do ‘grown up time’ with some Enterprise friends. We had a gorgeous meal at The Orange Tree while my wonderful friend Aysel stayed with Ty.
OH MY GOD! I can’t believe I forgot the biggest news of the day! Forget the tooth – Ty slept through the night last night! I never thought I would see the day. Of course, tonight he will probably be up 9x – but that’s ok. He has been going to bed at 7 and he woke at 5am for a bottle and then back to sleep until 6. NICE!
I figure slideshows are the best way to show my numerous pictures all at once. Enjoy & hasta luego

…so bear with us. We have really been having some teething-related fussiness the past few days. God, it can be unbearable – and I sure it’s tough on him too
Lots of screaming, cooling gum gel, frozen carrots and tylenol. It hasn’t stopped our little tank from eating (nothing could) – this week has been bananas and avocado. Not as great a success as carrots were, but apparently edible nonetheless.
SILLY TY
SLEEPY TY
AND TY SAYING MAMA! I am trying to hide around the corner because he seems to do it more when he is ‘in distress’ or can’t find me!

‘Cause he’s on a roll! Just when I thought things would calm down after our hat-trick week of sitting up, getting a tooth and eating food for the 1st time… Ty decides that he’s ready to roll! And not only front to back but back to front! Lord, help us all…

And today is Jason & my 5 year wedding anniversary.. that’s is alot of 5’s to celebrate! This morning we were talking about how 5 years ago this morning he was playing golf in miserable weather with his groomsmen and I was still sleeping off the night before
The weather in the UK is rather like our wedding day weather – misty and cool. ick. So I doubt we will do anything exciting to celebrate our anniversary. Ty is a bit young (and crazy) to leave with a ‘real’ babysitter and most of our friends are out of town. *sigh* Maybe it will be nicer next weekend and we can celebrate then!
Our real excitement of the day has been Ty’s first ‘real’ food for his 5-month birthday. OMG – I can’t believe I just referred to that as excitement – I am really getting old. But it was entertaining. We went with carrots (that I pureed myself with my new blending-thing)
and he seemed just fine with them. I think he would eat paper if I gave it to him.
I can’t believe what a difference there has been in him in the last 2 weeks. So many people told me that things get better at 6 weeks, 8 weeks – or even 3 months. They said ‘just wait until then – you will see a huge difference.’ Not so for us! The 5 month mark has been magical. Maybe it’s the sitting up that has made such a huge difference. My mom repeatedly told me that Ty would be happier when he could do things for himself and she was right. I feel like I haven’t had a minute to breath (or sleep) since he was born – and now I really see the light at the end up the tunnel! There will be a life for me again one day! I felt like I would never feel that way again. The dogs have really been a big help this last week too… Ty can sit and watch them for hours! They make great babysitters
Happy Saturday!

We are still focusing this week on getting Ty into some sort of routine and sleeping in his own crib. He is doing so great! We have decided to continue swaddling him for now though because he just jerks and hits himself in the head without it. After around the 2 month mark he could get out of any blanket swaddle despite how tight it was. It was amazing. So I had to invest in a ‘Miracle Blanket’ I had heard about online. It wasn’t really a ‘miracle’ for us – but it did keep him swaddled at night without any breakouts. Until now. He woke 2x last night (yea! progress) and both times I came into him room to find him sideways in his crib with his legs through the bars and no swaddle. How does he do it?! You only have to check out the miracle blanket website and watch the video to see that the thing is a virtual straight-jacket. crazy.
Yesterday was another beautiful day in the UK (very rare indeed and must be taken full advantage of) and Ty and I went to lunch with my friends Julie & Kristin in Lapworth at The Punchbowl. It was so cute – come visit us and we can go! We sat outside and Ty slept in his pram while we enjoyed lunch and Pimm’s.

When Ty and I got home we had an impromptu garden picnic with the dogs and all enjoyed the sunshine.

trying to get a pic of those blue, blue eyes!

Or is that just wishful thinking? I swear people told me it would get easier. I guess looking back to 2 months ago – it IS more fun now - but I don’t think I would say it was easier. What’s up this week? Well, Ty is still getting over his jetlag (which haas been a nightmare). As most of you know he is a TERRIBLE sleeper and when I say terrible, I mean terrible. He still wakes between 4-10 times a night and can’t sleep longer than around a 3 hour stretch. So Jason & I were planning on doing some ’sleep training’ when I returned to the UK and we all got settled. (We are planning on using Dr. Ferber’s Method or ‘Ferberizing’) I absolutely can’t wait to start getting him into more of a routine and getting some more sleep – I REALLY need it. I have started to almost sleepwalk at night and it’s scaring me! Well, not only has Ty jetlag been really bad, he now appears to be teething in earnest and in some pain. He is waking every 5 minutes or so during each nap and being even more fussy than usual at all hours. AND combine that with changing his formula once again back to the UK brands – and we are weeks away from starting any sort of training. I swear I am going to have a 2 year old that needs to be bounced and swaddled to sleep 10 times a night. *le sigh*
BUT – and this is a big BUT (hee hee) – he is changing so much and being so personable lately! Just the past 3 days or so he has been sitting up for extended periods on his own and playing with his toys AND reaching for his bottle and guiding it into his mouth! crazy.
Here is a video of the new bottle grabbing *WATCH VIDEO HERE*
and evidence of the cuteness

Where has the week gone? Oh yes, it has been spent in a semi-catatonic state due to lack of sleep from a jet-lagged baby. I don’t know why I didn’t think about this happening before – and prepared for it better. It has been AWFUL. Though, our saving grace is Jason AND the awesome weather the UK is experiencing right now. I think if I had tried to transition from FL and Charleston back into dreary, rainy England I might have turned right back around. It has been in the mid 70’s and sunny since we arrived. The only downside is… this also means sweaty nights and major bugs. Why you ask? Oh right, England doesn’t have air conditioning or has yet to adopt the ‘window screen.’ I would love to be the one to make a million dollars to sell it to everyone – but I am too tired.
Trying to re-cap from Pam’s wedding now!
